Marlene Mikell

Marlene Mikell is a certified facilitator and completed a teacher training in Yoga for the Special Child™ with Sonia Sumars. She received her BA in Elementary Education in 1992 and is endorsed to teach art and special education in elementary school. Marlene taught third grade for five years at Cameron Elementary and art for seven years at Beard Elementary a therapeutic day school for children with special needs. Both schools were Chicago Public Schools.At Beard Elementary she incorporated the program. She has practiced meditation since 1992 and has studied and practiced yoga since 1999. In 2001 she cofounded Heart Center Yoga, a yoga program designed for children and teens. Marlene is grateful to have had many wonderful teachers including Marsha Wenig, Sonia Sumars and Erich Schiffmann, but feels that every time she steps into a class full of children, they are her greatest teachers. She has taught at Healing Power Yoga, Braeside Elementary, Paul S. and Sylvia Steinberg Pre-School in Highland Park, Lake Forest Country Day School and volunteers at Children's Memorial Hospital. Marlene has taught many teacher trainings to Elementary and preschool teachers in Chicago and the suburbs about incorporating yoga into the classroom. She authored The Calm Classroom for Early Childhood.

Ilene Sang

Ilene Sang is a certified facilitator and a licensed Yoga for the Special Child™ therapist. She has an Illinois State Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education. She has taught preschool since 1986 at the Glencoe Children's Center, the Children's Center at Lakeside Congregation, and B'nai Torah preschool. She has also taught the program at the Glencoe Park District Community Center and Healing Power Yoga in Highland Park, IL. Ilene volunteers at Children's Memorial Hospital in the Children's Psychiatric Dept. She has studied and practiced yoga since 1994 and is grateful to the many teachers, especially Marsha Wenig, Sonia Sumars, Paul Weitz, Erich Schiffmann, and John Friend who have greatly influenced her personal practice as well as nurtured the love and passion she brings to teaching children.
