The Children's Program at HCY
Heart
Center Yoga was lovingly created as a children's yoga community in 2001.
Co-founders and directors Marlene Mikell and
Ilene Sang are professional educators
and yoga enthusiasts who had a vision of sharing the gift of yoga with
children, thereby giving them tools that they could use for a lifetime
of well-being.
At HCY we honor and employ the
philosophy of teaching the whole child through natural abilities. Children
will be encouraged to discover and focus on their abilities through
music, movement, creative arts, story telling connecting to nature,
math concept games, laughter and self reflection. We're there to provide
them with rich opportunities to explore and discover their unlimited
potential.
When
children participate in a class at HCY they engage in physical poses
that feel most natural for their own bodies. They will learn to honor
and respect their bodies by learning about nutrition, anatomy and health.
The practice of yoga enables children to connect to their bodies, minds
and spirits by touching and opening their hearts.
Classes are offered for children 4-5 yrs., 6-8 yrs, 9-11 yrs., 12-14
yrs. (junior high), and 14-17yrs (high school). Classes are designed
to meet the developmental, physical, and emotional needs of children
from these age groups. We also offer creative yoga
birthday parties, incorporating personalized themes, for kids, and
teens.
